On Saturday, March 12th, EAA Chapter 27 hosted a Young Eagles Workshop for youth ages 11-17 at Meriden Markham Airport. Participants attended four different aviation workshops on topics such as the aerodynamics of flight, flight instruments and navigation, metal working, and electrical concepts. For lunch, participants were treated to pizza as well as five guest speakers including a recent graduate from a college aviation program who is now a local flight instructor, a professional pilot, an airport manager, an Engineer and aerial photographer, and our current Ray Scholar who is nearing the completion of his Private Pilot Certificate.

In total, we hosted 25 participants, from 10 surrounding towns. Seven of the participants were from Meriden and Wallingford and seven of the participants were girls! The event involved many volunteer hours of planning and presentations by close to 15 of the EAA Chapter 27 members. It became clear by the end of the day that we inspired many young aviation enthusiasts to join our ranks! We are looking forward to our next Young Eagles Rally which will take place on Saturday, June 11th (rain date June 12th). A special THANK YOU goes out to all of our Chapter 27 members who volunteered for this successful youth event and to Constance Castillo, Meriden Airport Manager, for her continued support of the EAA Chapter 27 youth events.
